Student’s Guide to Smarter Laundry

Prolonging the useful life of you clothing by knowing how to properly launder your garments and to treat staining, can save you a bundle in dry cleaning and replacement costs. Here are some helpful cleaning ideas that you should be aware of.



Stain Removal

For best result, remove stains as soon as possible. Many stains, except oily and greasy stains, can be removed while fresh by simply moistening with cold water and rubbing in common facial soap. Often soaking a stain in cool water will help loosen it until you have time to really work on it. Use hot water and soap for oily stains.



When applying any solution for stain removal, always test it on an area that is not noticeable – such as a seam allowance or back of a piece of furniture. Testing will indicate if the fabric color will be damaged by the solution.



For very expensive items, it may be wise to take them to a commercial dry cleaner and indicate to him the type of stain.
